Use your Apple ID or create a new account to start using Apple. After nearly 20 hours of processing, my new library was fully functional. iPhoto’s intractable library choked with duplicates compels many users to resort to iPhoto Library Manager. Sign in to iCloud to access your photos, videos, documents, notes, contacts, and more. It also manages to rebuild albums and folders. It starts with a fresh clean library and imports all the photos, including their meta data, such as location, faces, date. But it works differently from Apple’s approach. The software has a tool to recover corrupted libraries. iPhoto Library Manager allows you to organize your photos among multiple iPhoto libraries, rather than having to store all of your photos in one giant. I have been using iPhoto Library Manager for some time for quickly moving between libraries but today it became my true champion. The library contains more than 33.000 photos spanning 12 years. Any attempt to use these tools lead to a crash. ![]() This tip from one of our commenters is a lifesaver for anyone working with limited hard disk space, since it makes a lot more sense to store things like iPhoto and iTunes libraries to external drives rather than take up disk space with infrequently used media files. My iPhoto library was corrupted and even the Apple’s build in tools for repairing the database and rebuilding thumbnails did not longer work. Now iPhoto will use the library you have specified in the new location, just be aware that if you chose an another hard drive and then launch iTunes without that drive connected, your images won’t be available. This is typically instantaneous but sometimes there’s a slight delay as iPhoto reads the library file again. Find the iPhoto Library in the list or click on “Other Library” to manually navigate to the new location and then click on “Choose”.Hold down the Option key and launch iPhoto.Next, we’re going to tell iPhoto where to find the new location: Waiting is by far the longest part of this procedure, but once it’s finished copying you just need to point iPhoto to the new location: Point iPhoto to the New Library Location ![]() Now you will see a new folder with a lot of years. The library moving or copying process may take a while depending on how many pictures you have stored in iPhoto. Find the one called ‘Originals’ and click on it.
